So, you’re interested in an adventurous engagement session but you want some more information first? Don’t worry, I got you! In this post, I’ll walk you through the process from booking a shoot to receiving your fully edited gallery.
The first step in the process is picking a location! I definitely recommend a place that you and your partner really love. Not only will the photos have more meaning, but you’re also likely to know of the best spots that make the most epic shots!
For example, Sunny Coast couple Dakota and Jayden first climbed Mt Tibberoowoocum for Dakota’s birthday a few years ago for sunrise. So, after they enquired into a session to celebrate their recent engagement, they suggested that this little known Glasshouse Mountain would be the perfect place.
The next step is picking outfits. I usually recommend neutrals that complement each other and don’t detract from the natural environment! However, it’s totally up to you guys and your style- the only requirement is super sturdy shoes. Outfit changes are also a good option! I definitely recommend wearing just normal hiking clothes on the approach and then finding a secluded area to get changed at the destination.
On the day, we’ll meet at the trail head and head up to the destination together. This allows me to get to know you and your partner and your story! I definitely think this has the added benefit of helping you guys to relax in front of the camera, and often by the time we reach the photoshoot location couples feel like mates I’ve had for ages. I learnt that Dakota and Jayden got engaged at Springbrook National Park, and all about their lives. Once we get to the location, we’ll have a break, and then start around an hour long session. I use prompts, not poses - so instead of saying “look at each other and smile,” I say something like “walk towards me and one of you tell the other your favourite thing about each other.” This always creates the most authentic and natural shots!
After the shoot, we’ll enjoy the return hike, which is often in the beautiful blue hour misting over an ancient forest. And then within the next day or so I’ll send through fully edited sneak peaks, and then the fully edited gallery within the week!
