I recently had the absolute privilege of capturing a sunrise elopement at Woody Head, on the coast just north of Brisbane.
The whole thing was magical - from the first-light portraits on the deck of the hotel, to the golden glow over the couple as they said their vows, to the precious memories they made on the beach (and in the ocean!!) afterwards.
Elopements are still not mainstream way of getting married within Australia - especially adventurous elopements.
There seems still to be the connotation that eloping means that you have less money to invest into a celebration of your relationship, or that your network is disapproving of the choice.
WRONG! There are endless reasons a couple may CHOOSE to elope.
This stigma makes me so sad, because irrespective of the fact they are one of my favourite things to witness and capture, there are so many amazing benefits to choosing to elope!
REASON # 1 - INTENTIONALITY
If you’re engaged, then there’s no doubt that intentionality had a key place in your relationship to get you this far!! Making time for each other, listening actively, rituals and traditions - the list goes on. So why would this stop at the biggest day of your life?
At your elopement, your day is ACTUALLY yours.
The guest list is refined enough to allow you to have meaningful interactions with people that enrich your life.
The activities you do reflect you and your partner’s interests.
There’s time for you and your partner to be alone and savour this special day.
REASON # 2- IT’S CHILL
Less planning.
Less stress.
Less drama!
What’s not to love?!
REASON # 3 - EPIC SHOTS!!
Let’s be real. There’s only so many unique shots you can get at your typical, indoor wedding.
When you elope, there are endless factors to play with in order to create incredible, timeless shots. What kind of light do you want? What landscape do you identify with? How are you going to interact with each other and the landscape?
Sometimes the weather can throw a cheeky unique element into the equation as well!!
