IS THE HIKE TO LARAPINTA FALLS DIFFICULT?
I would say is moderate to difficult, with the challenges coming from;
the steepness of the ridge climbs along the side of the creek; some of them are climbing roots like a ladder
the gradient of the hills beside the creek
the length of the hike
the navigational factor
rock-hopping up a slippery creek on uneven rocks
CAN YOU SWIM IN LARAPINTA FALLS?
As quoted on QLD Park’s website;
[The region includes] ‘pristine aquatic ecosystems that are habitat for a number of endangered and vulnerable frog species and other aquatic wildlife.’
CAN YOU GET LOST ON THE WAY TO LARAPINTA FALLS?
You can get lost literally anywhere, but yes, as the route is only marked with pink tape, the likelihood of getting lost here is more significant than on most other hikes. In some places, the creek splits into two forks and choosing which branch requires using either a topographic map, GPS, or reliable app. In addition, the track follows the creek but on a small ridge beside it for a lot of the hike. On this path, there are a lot of overgrowths and fallen debris, which has resulted in people forging their own path sporadically.
HOW LONG DOES THE HIKE TAKE?
I would recommend allowing at least eight hours to complete the hike! Don't start late in the day, it’s never worth being caught off-track in the dark, especially when there’s a lot of rock-hopping to do.
