Tuffant is a Brisbane-based family-owned business that caters to the four-wheel-drive adventurer!! Their wheels were designed specifically for Land Rovers.
In September, I was lucky enough to branch out from my normal extreme sport photography clients to help these guys take professional marketing photos for their social channels and website!
I learned a lot by doing this shoot and have a few critical tips for executing a car-based photo shoot!
I’ll try and keep it as brief as possible.
Firstly, choose a location that reflects the type of car!! Capturing a Defender is a different story than a flashy sports car. They’ve got opposite purposes and very different audiences. Taking a Defender and parking it under the neon lights of an inner-city street would look as out of place as a Defender in a dusty farm paddock!
Next, play around with the angles! They’re big, and you want to depict the whole thing as best you can. You’ll see I’ve tried to emphasize the wheels, as well as the full vehicle from multiple angles.
My final tip would be to make sure the light is complimenting your car! I was lucky here that it wasn’t a particularly glare-y day, as it was mid-afternoon, which meant the white wasn’t overly reflective. However, ideally, morning or evening golden hour will create an amazing accent for your shoot.
